Stolen Vehicle Found Wrecked

On Friday, January 17th, 2020, around 6:30 P.M., the California Highway Patrol took a report of a stolen 2001 Chevrolet Silverado from the Sierra Pacific Industries at 19758 Riverside Drive in Anderson. The victim of the stolen vehicle was identified as Edgar Reyes, 38 years of Redding.

On January 18th, 2020, Reyes’ wife and her friend were driving around Shasta County attempting to locate the stolen Chevrolet when they found it parked and unoccupied in the parking lot of Win River Casino. Reyes’ wife, Sara Martinez, 31 years of Redding, was inspecting the vehicle when she was approached by an unknown white male suspect. The suspect had possession of the Chevrolet’s key and ordered Martinez to move out of his way. Martinez attempted to block the driver door as her friend called 911. The unknown suspect pushed and punched Martinez away from the driver door, entered the Chevrolet, and fled the scene.

A Redding Police Officer was patrolling the Win River lot when he simultaneously spotted the stolen Chevrolet exiting the parking as he was being flagged down by Martinez. Martinez told the officer she was carjacked by the male suspect as she tried to recover her husband’s stolen truck. The stolen Chevrolet took off at a high rate of speed on southbound State Route 273 and officers later located the vehicle crashed into the stop sign at Happy Valley Rd. and Majestic View Dr. An extensive search was conducted with a Redding Police K9 but the suspect was not located.

The suspect is described as a white male adult, in his forties, a shaved head, goatee, an unknown face tattoo, black sweatshirt, baggy light sweatpants and brown boots.

The Redding Police Department cautions citizens from confronting suspects associated with stolen vehicles or who are involved in other crimes. Citizens who witness crimes are encouraged to call 911 and wait for an emergency response, as your safety is our top priority.
