On March 6, 2019, around 2:55 a.m., Officers from the Redding Police Department were dispatched to a report of a possible burglary to a home in east Redding. A neighbor observed a man hiding in the bushes across the street, at his neighbor’s home. The citizen knew the homeowner was out of town and called 911 while continuing to watch the suspect. The suspect then approached the front door and kicked it open to gain access to the residence.
Officers arrived at the home and found that lights had been turned on inside. As officers approached the front door, Connell Rhoden (59 years of Redding) opened the front door. Rhoden was detained and claimed that he had purchased the home and had permission to be inside it. The front door had been forced open, damaging the doorframe and lock. Officers were able to make contact with the homeowner by phone, who confirmed that he had never met Rhoden.
Rhoden was placed under arrest and booked at the Shasta County Jail for burglary and a misdemeanor warrant.
