Letter to the Editor: State of the Union

I felt it was my duty as a good citizen to watch the State of the Union address.

I make a point of avoiding any horror genre or violence. I am a sensitive person and a truth seeker, so I avoid filling my head with unnecessary crap. I knew there would be lies. I knew there would be posturing. I knew he would use it as a campaign platform for the next time around (if he is still standing). But the cold-blooded cruelty on display and the raucous mob-like support of his loyal party, all transpiring in the great hall of our legislative branch echoed off the walls like the rise of the Fourth Reich.

I am disturbed today. His comments equating Venezuela's tragic run of ineptitude and corruption with “socialism” and the cheers of "USA, USA!" after his denouncement of socialism having any place in our country may have just officially started our next civil war. My heart goes out to Bernie.

Positive side…. It may be that the Elephant party is shooting itself in the knees. Certainly we’ve known for a while what we’re up against. Seeing the serpent raising its head like this does call for the dragon slayer in us to rise in a calm simple focus and speak truth, love and compassion.

Nice letter! Yep I can see the Republicans labeling the Dems as “Socialists” as campaign strategy! I am so tired of name calling and lies in politics. Doug Milhous

I just read that 76% of the country approved of the State of the Union message, unbelievable. I have no hope of turning Trumps hardcore supporters, they are locked into stupid. We can hope everybody else will vote to remove him. We have a lot of choices on who to pick to run for our side. The worst obstacle is our own party. The Democrats have chosen leadership that is not in sync with us. You can see this clearly in. their attacks on AOC.

I think it was 76% of the viewers, which is far different than 76% of the country. It is the echo chamber chamber or bubble. Most of us tune out whenever he speaks.

For the first time in my adult, voting eligible life, I did not tune in, I figured I would get the gist of it regurgitated for months to come.. . . and the sound of his voice makes me ill.

Adrienne, you missed a disjointed speech that wandered here and there. There were some really awful lies, but we’re so used to this that no one pays attention. I would say the speech was geared to a 4th or 5th grade education and delivered with as much eloquence as is possible when a man is delivering a speech someone else wrote. You made the right choice.
