Donated by ANC subscriber and Redding native Candace Corbin in memory of her mother, Nadine Tucker, this ‘Quebec Street in Winter’ watercolor was painted by Mary Spivey, a well-known California artist. Spivey also lived in Redding, and was one of the founders of the Redding Co-Operative Preschool in Redding.
Mary Spivey and Nadine Tucker are no longer alive, but their legacy lives on via their community service, their art and their art collections, such as this Spivey Quebec piece that belonged to Corbin’s mother.
Thank you, Candace Corbin, for this generous donation in memory of your mother.

About Nadine Tucker
Nadine Tucker ( 12/1/28 – 5/23/17) lived in Redding from the early 1950s until her death in 2017. She was the bookkeeper for Battle Turner, who owned Turner’s Clothing in Redding. She also worked as a secretary for attorney Jack Presleigh, and well as a private bookkeeper, and as a realtor for Strout Realty. She was a beloved classroom volunteer at Cypress Elementary School and Shasta County Juvenile Hall. Two of Nadine’s great loves were supporting local community and all things Christmas.
About Mary Spivey
Mary Spivey studied at the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland with George Post. Painting “plein aire” inspired her life-long interest in watercolor. Formerly a Redding educator, she taught art in the Berkeley School District, Walnut Creek Civic Arts, Berkeley Adults School, and Yosemite’s artist-in-residence program. A frequent traveler, she found watercolor an expressive portable medium.
