ANC Online Auction: Butter Creek Ranch Wines — Don & Elaine Cohen

Not only are Don and Elaine Cohen long-time aNewsCafe.com readers, and not only did Don once co-authored a column on ANC called “Wine on a Dime” – but their daughter and son-in-law — Marni and John Rapf – once owned and operated Butter Creek Ranch, a small, family-owned vineyard and winery in Trinity County, a place where their wines were handcrafted from the vineyard to the table. There, the Rapfs produced some incredible wines from grapes grown near Hyampom in the Burgundian tradition. (I was a particular fan of Butter Creek Ranch’s Chardonnays.)

These wines were once available for sale in the north state, at such fine dining establishments as Moonstone Bistro. But alas, Butter Creek Ranch is closed, and Marni and John have moved away for new adventures.

However, Don and Elaine happen to have a few bottles of Butter Creek Ranch left, and they shared some with ANC’s first online auction.

Thank you, Don and Elaine, for your generous donation of Butter Creek Ranch wines.

About the Cohens

This is Katie Cohen, Don and Elaine’s pride and joy.

Don and Elaine Cohen are both retired now (and are too bashful for photos), but in their former life chapters they owned and operated art galleries in Los Angeles and San Francisco before moving to the north state. (In fact, Shasta College has a current exhibit, “Selected Works from The Cohen Collection” that features some of their artwork. The exhibit runs through Nov. 15 in the Shasta College Art Gallery.)  In Don’s former career, he was a day trader in Chicago. They are gourmet cooks who love to use local farmers market ingredients, and grow fresh fruits in their backyard Redding orchard. Katie the cat keeps them entertained.
