The latest updates on fires affecting the Northern Sacramento Valley, from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, nwcg.gov, U.S. Forest Service – Shasta-Trinity National Forest, and the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office.
Update from nwcg.gov, 9:04 AM
Yesterday, strong, gusty winds tested control lines on the Delta Fire. Despite adverse wind conditions the acreage did not increase. Firefighters continued to aggressively suppress the fire, which increased containment to 64 percent.
Three small spot fires were detected and successfully suppressed along the northern flank near Slate Creek. Clear skies allowed aircraft to assist ground resources throughout the day.
There was no growth along the eastern and western flanks of the fire and firelines remained unchanged. Overnight, crews completed fireline in the Sanford Road area to connect control lines along the southern end of the fire.
Today, firefighters will continue to improve existing firelines. Crews will increase the depth of control lines by extinguishing hotspots and removing hazard trees further into the interior of the fire. In the Sanford Road area, fire is expected to slowly back towards the main fire where crews completed tactical firing operations last night. Aircraft will aid suppression efforts, if weather allows. Fire suppression repair activities will begin on dozer lines that are no longer being utilized on the fire. These activities are designed to reduce erosion potential.
Due to the significant increase in containment over the past couple days, the Delta Fire and Hirz Fire Shasta-Trinity National Forest Closure Orders have been revised and combined. Numerous county evacuations and road closures have been lifted in the Shasta, Siskiyou, and Trinity counties.
