On July 18, 2018 at 9:26 p.m., SHASCOM received a report of a unresponsive female at State Route 273 and Westside Road. Redding Fire and an ambulance crew arrived on scene to provide aid. The female, Violeta Gallegos, 35 years old of Redding, became combative and threw a cinder block at an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). The block missed him, but hit the ambulance, breaking apart. She then began throwing rocks at emergency personnel.
Redding Police Officers arrived and attempted to confront Gallegos. Gallegos armed herself with a window washing squeegee, which she threw at the approaching officers. Gallegos then attempted to evade officers by running around the gas pumps and then fled on foot across HWY 273. Officers used a taser device and batons to get subdue Gallegos and take her into custody.
The windshield of the ambulance was broken in the incident. The EMT, Nathan Kreps, 26 years of Redding, was not injured.
Gallegos was transported to the hospital for medical treatment and then booked into the Shasta County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, resisting, delaying, obstructing a police officer/EMT, and vandalism. Gallegos had four warrants for her arrest for narcotic related offenses and assault on a peace officer.
