The series Shakespeare Uncovered is coming to PBS in October 2018. The six part series will tell the “stories behind the stories” of some of Shakespeare’s greatest plays.
In collaboration with the national broadcast KIXE has partnered with Spiritus Productions, the producers of the recent Shakespeare in the Park, to produce Scenes from Shakespeare.
Generously funded by a grant from New York PBS station WNET, Scenes from Shakespeare will cast local actors in scenes from the six plays explored in the national series of Shakespeare Uncovered. The cast will then rehearse and perform the scenes with a professional equity actor brought in from out of town for the performance.
KIXE will document the behind-the-scenes process of the actors auditioning, learning their parts and then performing the scenes at a local theater. The footage will then be turned into a documentary that will air in conjunction with Shakespeare Uncovered.
Plays to be featured include: The Merchant of Venice, Richard III, Much Ado About Nothing, Julius Caesar, The Winter’s Tale, and Measure for Measure.
About Shakespeare Uncovered: Produced by Blakeway Productions, 116 Films and THIRTEEN Productions LLC for WNET in association with PBS and Shakespeare’s Globe, each episode reveals the extraordinary world and works of William Shakespeare and the still-potent impact his plays have today. The films combine interviews with actors, directors and scholars, along with visits to key locations, clips from some of the most celebrated film and television adaptations and illustrative excerpts from the plays staged specially for the series at Shakespeare’s Globe in London.
Date: Auditions in August and production in late September
