Homicide in South Redding

 

On Friday, 06/22/18, at approximately 6:10 P.M. motorists in the area of Clear Creek Road approximately 1 mile west of State Route 273, Redding reported a shooting involving two subjects. Officers with the Redding Police Department initially responded to the scene due to the location of occurrence being near the City/County limits on Clear Creek Road. The location of occurrence was confirmed to be in the counties jurisdiction and deputies with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene to take over the investigation.

Upon deputies’ arrival, they discovered the Victim, Joseph Jehonathan Gill, 37 years old of Redding, was located in a field north of Clear Creek Road. Gill was pronounced deceased at the scene from apparent multiple gunshot wounds. The other subject, identified as Brady Evan Schumacher, 49 years old of Redding, was detained as he was identified by witnesses as being responsible for the shooting. Gill and Schumacher know each other and the motive behind the shooting is undetermined at this time.

Detectives with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, Major Crimes Unit were called out and took over the investigation which has been deemed a homicide. Multiple witnesses to the shooting were interviewed on scene and several pieces of evidence consistent with witness statements was collected by crime scene personnel. Schumacher was ultimately arrested for 187 PC, Murder and booked into the Shasta County Jail.

No motorist or citizens were injured during the incident and there are no other suspects outstanding. Clear Creek Road has been reopened. The semi-auto handgun believed to be used during the homicide has been located. No other information about the handgun will be released. An autopsy will be conducted on Gill next week to determine cause of death.
