
UPDATE TO HAPPY VALLEY INCIDENT
ORIGINAL POST: The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and the Happy Valley Fire Department, will be moving forward with the plan to set fire to the structure at 5747 Happy Valley Road, Anderson, CA. Burning the building and its contents will safely neutralize the 150-200 pounds of explosives that remain at that location. The destruction of the site is set to occur at 12:00 pm on Monday, March 5, 2018. As a result, precautionary evacuations will be necessary. Anyone that had been affected by evacuation requirements on February 27, 2018 can expect to be required to evacuate again. Evacuations will begin at approximately 8:00 am on March 5, 2018 and will be lifted as soon as officials confirm the explosives and site are rendered safe.
Road closures will be at the intersection of Happy Valley Road at Palm Avenue and Happy Valley Road at Andrea Way. Residents inside the evacuation zone will be allowed to leave but may not re-enter until the evacuation order has been lifted. Please prepare to take anything with you that you will need for the entire day. Please take needed steps to feed and properly secure animals prior to leaving. Residents who live in the area of Andrea Way, Meier Way, Benji Ln., Warwick Place, Shawn Dr., New Castle Dr., Dover Dr., Conman, Darlene and Taffey will be impacted by this event.
The American Red Cross evacuation center will be at the Happy Valley Community Center located at 5400 Happy Valley Rd, which will be marked with Red Cross signage. Residents can also sign up for the community notification system by visiting www.shascom911.com and clicking on the CodeRED icon at the bottom of the page. The community notification system will be utilized to help keep residents in the evacuation zone updated.
All Happy Valley Union Elementary District schools (Happy Valley Elementary, Happy Valley Primary and Happy Valley Community Day School) will be closed due to this event.
A Temporary Flight Restriction will be in effect for the air space in and around this event. This includes the use of drones. If they are seen in the area, it will only delay operations.
