Felon Attacks City Employee

Spencer Richard Gove mugshot

On February 16, 2018, a City of Redding Waste Management employee was driving his assigned route when he was confronted by a subject acting bizarre on Moonstone Drive. The driver was contacted by Spencer Richard Gove, 40 years of Redding, who brandished a large knife. Gove began pointing the knife towards the driver in a threatening manner. Gove then stuck the knife into a piece of wood and ran towards the truck. Gove jumped up onto the garbage truck and reached inside the vehicle and grabbed the arm of the driver. Gove was irate and wanted the driver to get out and fight him.

The driver pushed Gove away and drove down the road where he called police. Officers arrived and found Gove in his driveway. Officers had previously contacted Gove when he was arrested in January of 2018 for attempted carjacking and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was released after 14 days in custody and placed on Supervised Own Recognizance (SOR).

A search of Gove’s residence led to the discovery of ammunition, a zip gun, and firearm magazines. He was booked at the Shasta County Jail on multiple charges to include brandishing a weapon, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of an illegal zip gun, possession of a high capacity magazine, and battery.
