On 08/26/17 at 2206 hours, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an adult male who arrived at the Cal-Fire fire station on Platina Road, Ono, with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. The Victim, later identified as Travis Douglas 34 years-old, reported he had accidentally shot himself while positioning a 20 gauge shotgun with a sling over his shoulder.Douglas was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of his injury.
During the course of the investigation, it was learned the incident occurred at Douglas’residence at 10295 Trinity Alps Vista, Ono. Douglas resides at the residence with his girlfriend, Laura Jones 34 years-old, along with four other subjects. At some time just prior to the report,Douglas and Jones became involved in a verbal altercation concerning him leaving the residence on this night. While Douglas was attempting to leave the residence with a shotgun slung on his shoulder, Jones grabbed the firearm, intentionally shooting Douglas once in the back of his shoulder area. Douglas was transported from his residence to the Cal-Fire station for treatment. Douglas is receiving continued treatment for his non-life threatening injury.
Jones was located at their residence and arrested and booked at the Shasta County Jail for 245(a)(2) PC, Assault with a Deadly Weapon/Firearm and 273.5(a) PC Domestic Violence/Corporal Injury to a Spouse/Cohabitant.
After a records check, Douglas was found to be a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing any firearms. Two firearms were located at his residence, including the shotgun used in the incident, and both were taken and booked as evidence. Douglas will be pending a charge of 29800(a) (1) PC, Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
