Shasta College announces its 67th Annual Commencement ceremony, which will take place on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Shasta College Memorial Stadium (football field). To date, there are 937 applications for diplomas, 164 applications for certificates, and approximately 491 confirmed participants in the commencement ceremony. Shasta College Student Senate President, Emily Groth, will present the class and Superintendent/President, Dr. Joe Wyse, will give the welcoming address. Flag bearers will be Mary Bailey, Classified Employee of the Year, Michael Trujillo, Excellent Educator of the Year (Part-time Faculty) and Sonny Stupek, Excellent Educator of the Year (Full-time Faculty).
Dr. Keith Curry, Provost/CEO of the El Camino College Compton Center and Compton Community College District, is this year’s commencement speaker. Dr. Curry, is a dynamic speaker who believes that, “Every student is a success story” with the right academic and student support services. Dr. Curry has taken a strong stance on the ability of community colleges to provide quality education to students and to provide an environment of educational excellence. Dr. Curry earned his Bachelor’s Degree in American Studies from the University of California at Santa Cruz and his doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of California at Irvine. Dr. Curry is also an adjunct faculty member at California State University Fullerton College of Education.
