The Redding Branch of the national American Association of University Women (AAUW) will honor local resident and community advocate Rachel K. Hatch with its “Woman of Achievement Community Award” for 2017 — at the organization’s next general meeting, on May 11th.

“Rachel has so generously donated her time and expertise towards helping to enhance and advance the Redding/North State community,” said Janel Longnecker, Chairwoman of the AAUW Redding Branch “Woman of Achievement Community Award” committee. “We want to publicly recognize her as a valuable asset in our community, and show our appreciation.”

In the past six years, since moving to Redding, Rachel has been a volunteer with many groups using innovative and creative approaches to enhance Redding’s and the North State’s positive image.

Her community advocate activities have included being a co-producer of the TEDxRedding Talks events, co-founder of Redding Fashion Alliance (a fiscal project of the Shasta County Arts council), and a member of RISE – the next-generation Redding Chamber of Commerce program for Young Professionals. Rachel is a cross-generational collaborator through the Women’s Fund, Turtle Bay Exploration Park development committee, and the League of Women Voters. She is the co-founder of a financial planning firm, Woven Capital; and she uses social media to help publicize innovative local events – from the North State’s first Maker Faire to Startup Weekend. She is also a monthly columnist for the Record Searchlight, focusing on the intersection between civic innovation and economic development, often using the social media hashtag: #whatifRedding.

This month, Rachel K. Hatch joins The McConnell Foundation as a new program officer, with experience in community building, and eager to work in the area of community vitality. The Foundation identified participating in the revitalization of downtown Redding as its first priority for this position. Hatch begins her work at the Foundation on May 22, 2017.
