North State Symphony Recreates Mahler’s World

In its season finale, North State Symphony sets the stage for an epic opportunity to experience the world “Mahler style”. One of history’s greatest composers whose out-sized personality was reflected in his master works, composer Gustav Mahler famously once said “A symphony must be like the World: it must contain everything”. This is certainly the case with his fifth symphony, which will take you on an emotional roller coaster from tragedy to triumph featuring an orchestra on the largest of scales.

Also on the program is high school senior Diego Bustamente, our Young Artist Competition Winner, who will dazzle us with the soaring melodies and crisp rhythms of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20. Diego has already established an impressive resume as a concert pianist whose focused performances and artistic maturity belie his young age.

“This is going to be a great way to usher out our 2016-17 concert season,” says North State Symphony Music Director Scott Seaton. “I’m really excited to bring a Mahler-sized orchestra to the North State and to fill your ears with the biggest, boldest sound you’ve heard from our orchestra yet. Diego’s interpretation of Mozart will also be very exciting, and we look forward to seeing him center stage”.
