Shasta College is pleased to present Everybody Has Doglegs, an exhibition of artwork by Gioia Fonda and Terry Peterson. The exhibition is on display from March 6 – April 20, 2017 at the Shasta College Art Gallery. There will be an artist’s lecture on Thursday, March 23rd, 2017 at 11:00-12:00 pm in room 400 with a reception to follow at 12:00-1:00 pm in building 300. This event is free and open to the public.

As the exhibition title suggests, these artists are flaneurs of a sort, wandering about in their artworks with no particular destination in mind—remaining open to unexpected turns and hoping for serendipitous happenings. Gioia Fonda writes, “A dogleg can be many things; I see it as a sort of U-turn or a crooked path, a meandering. This body of work is all about escapism and divergence; doglegs abound throughout these pieces visually, physically and philosophically.”

Fonda’s work includes two-dimensional artworks as well as sculptures she calls “mindscape terrariums.” She describes them as, “imaginary places, little mindscape terrariums of a universe far away in both time and space from the one we seem to be trapped in here and now.” Peterson’s kinetic sculptures reflect a deep love of craft and form and a quest for unusual art materials. The artist makes art out of things that one might find on a walkabout here in California. Picture river water, trout, sand, abalone shells, redwood, flotsam and jetsam like ocean water, tools, and electronic fragments.

Gioia Fonda and Terry Peterson are Sacramento based artists and professors of art at Sacramento City College. Terry Peterson is also a graduate of Shasta College’s art program.

Shasta College Art Gallery is open Monday-Friday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm and Monday-Thursday 6:00–9:00 pm. For additional information please contact Andrew Patterson-Tutschka, apatterson-tutschka@ShastaCollege.edu
