In support of one of Redding’s community crown jewels, The McConnell Foundation is granting $25,000 to Kids Kingdom 2. McConnell board and staff volunteered time and money toward the original Kids Kingdom built by loyal citizens who dreamed of a whimsical playground for their children. Now, the next generation of generous citizens is rallying together to create an inclusive play environment for the whole child. Support for Kids Kingdom 2 will bring whimsical play for every child at every age and physical ability.
“Kids Kingdom 2 speaks right to the heart of The McConnell Foundation’s mission to help build better communities through philanthropy,” said Bob Blankenship board chairman. “Communities have indicators of health and wellbeing, and this project reinforces the known indicator that kids thrive better with opportunities for safe, outdoor creative play.”
Other funders, sponsors and community fundraisers have raised more than $200,000 toward the $300,000 project. McConnell hopes its grant will stimulate even more giving to reach the goal of building Kids Kingdom 2 in early 2017.
