On August 17, 2016, at 11:16 p.m. SHASCOM received a 911 call of shots fired in the area of 3032 Bechelli Lane in Redding. Responding Officers arrived in the area and discovered Edwin Charles Phillips, 67 years of Redding suffering from a gunshot wound. Phillips was transported via ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Investigators were able to obtain video surveillance from a local nearby business, which showed Edwin Phillips entering his business with an unknown subject and exiting a short time later, just prior to the shooting. The subject appears to be of a large stature and was wearing baggy, long shorts and possibly a tank top at the time.
Anybody with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Redding Police Department Investigations Division at 225-4200. Shasta County Secret Witness is currently offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the suspect.
