Gary L. Romesha was named the 1st Assembly Districts 2016 Veteran of the Year. He is being recognized for his service and commitment to California and his country today in Sacramento at the annual Veteran Recognition Luncheon. Assemblyman Brian Dahle will be presenting him his award.

 Through their selfless service, veterans like Gary L. Romesha have defended our nation, its citizens, and the freedoms we all enjoy. By continuing to serve our community after leaving the military, Gary L. Romesha has contributed even more to making California a better place.

 Romesha is an amazing man who has served our country dutifully and proudly.  Romesha was an E-4 (Spec-4) in the US Army, He served in Vietnam from November, 1969 to February, 1971. His Basic training was in Fort Lewis, WA.

 While serving in Vietnam, he was with Delta Company 1st of the 22nd Infantry, 4th Division. They participated in the Cambodian invasion for 2 months. Gary was on the Phil Donahue talk show in the late 1990s for his integral part in the rescue of a family lost in the desert in Washoe County, Nevada.

 He received a Bronze Star, Air Medal, various service medals, Special Conduct Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. Now while out of the armed forces he currently now focuses on agricultural endeavors, cattle farming, and owns a sawmill in Lake City, Calif. 

He is married with 5 children. His oldest son is in the Air Force and stationed in Alaska, his middle son served in the Marine Corps, and his youngest son served in the Army and received the Medal of Honor for his actions in Afghanistan.  His two daughters reside in North Dakota and Texas.
