UPDATE, 9:05 PM:
The suspect responsible for robbing the Sierra Central Credit Union, at approximately 2:48 P.M. today, has been arrested. Daniel Alex Cordova, 18 years of Redding, surrendered himself to the Shasta County Jail after fleeing a residence in the 1100 block of Walnut Avenue in Redding, where investigators had gone to look for him.
Cordova was identified from bank surveillance video by Redding Police Department Investigator Rusty Bishop. Witnesses to the robbery subsequently identified Cordova as well. Investigators began checking locations for Cordova and received information about the address on Walnut. Investigators arrived at the Walnut residence and learned Cordova had just fled. Cordova reportedly arrived at the residence unexpectedly, stayed long enough to change his clothes, and left.
Investigators located the clothing Cordova was wearing during the robbery, and a demand note similar to the note used at Sierra Central Credit Union inside the residence on Walnut. Redding Police Officers and Investigators began checking the surrounding neighborhood for Cordova. A short time later Cordova surrendered himself to deputies at the Shasta County Jail.
Redding Police Investigators transported Cordova to the Redding Police Department for an interview. Cordova confessed to committing the robbery and said he used the money he stole to purchase clothing from who he described as homeless people he met while making his way from downtown Redding to Walnut Street. He paid $150.00 for a t-shirt, and also purchased some slippers. Cordova said he gave away the remaining money, handing it out to random homeless individuals he met on the street. None of the money taken was recovered.
Cordova was arrested for robbery and booked into the Shasta County Jail.
