Audition Call for Shasta College’s Production of The Producers

This summer Shasta College is producing the widely popular musical The Producers adapted by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan. The musical is based on Brooks’ 1968 classic comedy of the same name and will show July 7-9th, 14-16th and 21-23rd at 7pm, with two matinee performances on July 10th and 17th at 2pm. All performances will be at the Shasta College Theatre.

Auditions for The Producers will be April 12th and 13th at 6pm in room 638 at Shasta College. Everyone in the community is welcome to audition with casting ages ranging from teenagers to senior citizens! Performers should prepare a comedic monologue no longer than 2 minutes and a 16 bar song from the musical The Producers or another musical comedy. Auditioners should bring sheet music, or recorded accompaniment if required for their performance. Call-backs will be April 14th. If you are interested in auditioning but cannot make these times, please email Dr. Gregory Thorson at gthorson@shastacollege.edu to set up a different audition time.

The story of the play revolves around two theatre producers who scheme to get rich by producing an unsuccessful musical on Broadway. This hilarious show draws on ridiculous events, characters and situations. The original Broadway production is among the most successful musicals of all time. It won a record number of Tony awards (12) and ran for 2,502 performances. This production is rated pg-13 and some material may not be suitable for children.
