On January 4, 2016, the Redding Police Department is proud to announce the implementation of the new Neighborhood Police Unit (NPU). This unit is comprised of one sergeant, one corporal, and four officers. NPU will work out of the patrol division. Their primary mission will focus on long-term solutions to crime in the downtown area and the Hilltop Drive business district. NPU will analyze crime trends in their designated areas and take appropriate enforcement action. This unit will maintain a flexible work week and schedule, as to increase their ability to address crime in our community.
