Returning Sunday, November 1st, all three branches of the Shasta Public Libraries will be participating in the annual “Food for Fines” campaign. From November 1st through the 21st , patrons can exchange one can of food for $1 off their library fines, up to $10 per customer, at the Anderson, Burney, and Redding Libraries. Now is the time to pay off your fine for that copy of “The Hunger Games” you kept a little too long.
Cans will be given to One SAFE Place (Redding), Anderson Cottonwood Christian Alliance (Anderson), and Burney Food Co-Op (Burney) and used for holiday food distribution programs. Food not needed for holiday programs will be distributed throughout the year to the hungry in our community.
“We live in a generous, giving, community and feel that our yearly Food for Fines campaign gives people another chance to do something good for others while getting something in return.” said Erin Francoeur, Director of Shasta Public Libraries.
The libraries can only accept canned foods; no damaged, expired or glass items. Donated cans cannot be used for lost or damaged books or for collection accounts. To learn more about this event, please call the Redding Library at (530) 245-7250 or visit www.shastalibraries.org
