Community Creek Cleanup Celebrates 10 Years

2013-5

Ten years ago, Past Mayor Ken Murray recruited Dr. Randall Smith and other community members to organize an effort to clean-up trash along Churn Creek from Shasta Lake to Anderson. Over the years, the event has moved around to locations along the local creeks and Sacramento River.

Community Creek Cleanup 2015 will focus on the north side of the Sacramento River Trail upstream from the Elks Lodge to Harlan Drive. Join us Saturday, October 3rd, 2015, from 8:00 am – Noon as work together to clean-up the area surrounding the trail. During these four short hours, hundreds of volunteers will gather to help remove trash and invasive vegetation, opening up the view of the river along this section of the Sacramento River Trail.

Volunteers ages 10 and older are invited to bring a water bottle, wear closed toe shoes, long pants, plenty of sunscreen, and come out to help restore the riparian savannah. Assignments range from registration to first aid to pruning to operating power tools. You can make a substantial contribution in the heart of Redding during a single morning along with hundreds of your fellow citizens.

With generous support from Dutch Bros. and the Shasta Association of Realtors, all participants will be treated to a free beverage and snacks.

Gloves, safety goggles, buckets and garden tools will be made available for use. Register on-line today at www.shastacreeks.com
