Shasta Family YMCA is proud to announce it was awarded a grant from The McConnell Fund of the Shasta Regional Community Foundation. The grant is for nearly $44,000 and will allow the Y to complete construction on an outdoor sports court which will include two junior-size outdoor basketball courts and volleyball net sleeves.  The outdoor sports court will expand the open basketball playing time, allow for the possibility of youth clinics and activities, and provide additional space for other outdoor programming.

This project began nearly two years ago when the YMCA of the Central Bay Area offered to donate 4 commercial basketball hoops to the Shasta Family YMCA. Upon hearing the news, several generous community members donated time and materials to begin the project in an attempt to provide much-needed additional court space. The excavation, grading and compaction are complete thanks to these donors and volunteers, and this grant covers the concrete foundation and striping to complete the project.

“We are very excited to have received this funding. This court will greatly increase our usable facility space allowing us to better serve our members and entire community.” says Kristen Lyons, CEO, Shasta Family YMCA. “And, completing this project honors the generosity of our many volunteers and donors who started it.”

Construction will begin in the next 60 days and be completed by early Fall 2015.
