ACLU Discussion on Marijuana Policy

Abdi Soltani, the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Northern California, will be in Redding on Wednesday, June 10 to discuss the significant policy challenges presented by the possibility of marijuana being legalized, taxed and regulated for adults in California.

This event is open to the public.  It’s being held at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 2850 Foothill Blvd., and begins at 1 p.m.

Soltani is a member of the steering committee of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Marijuana Policy (BRC), chaired by Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, which is composed of legal, academic, law enforcement, public health and policy experts from across the state and nation. The commission is engaged in a two-year research effort designed to help voters and policy makers evaluate proposals for a strict tax and regulation system for marijuana.

The commission was formed in light of the likelihood that a marijuana legalization initiative will be placed on the 2016 California ballot, and to provide thoughtful and serious analysis in order to identify the policy challenges and offer possible solutions.
