Tehama Wilderness Team Offers Free Girls Backpacking Trip to Lassen National Park

The Tehama Wilderness Team is looking for six Tehama County girls aged 13-16 to go on an all-expenses paid backpacking trip to Lassen Volcanic National Park this July.

The trip is a Tehama County PAL (Police Activities League) event and allows girls to experience backpacking in one of our nation’s most pristine National Parks. One of the trip leaders, Christine Price, said, “Lassen is the perfect place for that first backpacking trip. It’s friendly and relatively easy to hike, and the backcountry is a particularly beautiful place. Not only is the trip a lot of fun, but we teach kids to respect the wilderness and they learn just how valuable our National Parks really are.”

The three-day trip runs from July 10-12, 2015 and spends two nights in the wilderness. In addition to having fun, the students will learn how to live comfortably and safely in the backcountry, learn to respect and enjoy the wilderness and see some pretty cool things.

The participant only needs to bring a selection of clothes and a few small items like sunscreen, toothbrush/toothpaste, chap stick, etc., otherwise the trip is completely funded by the Lassen Park Foundation.

There are only six spots available and the deadline to apply is midnight, June 19, 2015. Applications are open to girls, aged 13-16, but you must live or be a student in Tehama County. Applicants accepted for the Team will be notified by June 22th. If selected, there is a mandatory safety meeting on the evening of July 6, 2014 in Red Bluff.
