This past 2015 Memorial Day weekend was a busy weekend on Shasta Lake. Young adults from University of Oregon, CSU Chico, UC Davis and UC San Luis Obispo, along with general vacationers, converged on Shasta Lake to enjoy the three day weekend. An estimated 194 plus houseboats were rented out for the weekend.
119 houseboats were concentrated on Slaughter House Island in the Sacramento Arm of Shasta Lake. These are the stats for 5-22-15 through 5-25-15:
Boating Under the Influence arrest: 3
Field Sobriety Tests administered: 33
Citations Issued for boating violations: 38
Warning Issued for boating violations: 388
Vessels/Persons assisted: 521
Accidents Reported: 8
Medical Transports to medical centers: 8

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the S.A.F.E. Boat program, from the University of California Davis, for their assistance this past weekend. The S.A.F.E. Boat was stationed on Slaughter House Island. The S.A.F.E. Boat personnel are EMT’s and Paramedics that handle minor injuries that require medical attention. They assess patients and determine if the patients need to be transported to a medical center. The S.A.F.E. Boat personnel handled 100’s of patients during the weekend. The Cal-Fire boat was on Shasta Lake during the weekend with 24 hour staffing. The Sheriff’s Office would also like to thank CAL-Fire and the U.S. Forest Service for their assistance on Shasta Lake.
