Recently the Redding Police Department has received a number of reports regarding a kidnapping telephone scam. The suspect will call using a blocked phone number and claim to have kidnapped a family member. They will demand a sum of money for the victim. The suspect will also threaten to harm the victim if the police are called and the money is not delivered. The suspects in these incidents seldom have specific information regarding the victim.

If you receive a call of this type please stay calm, write down all of the details of the call, confirm all family members are safe and contact local law enforcement to report it. Do not give out any personal information, bank information or pay a ransom.
