The Redding Municipal Airport is partnering with a local nonprofit organization, Rowell Family Empowerment, in an effort to raise autism awareness in our community. This event is for anyone, of any age, who has ever wanted to run, walk, or roll on a runway.
Airports for Autism will include a 5K race as well as a 1.5 mile fun run/walk; this event is unique as both courses will take place on the airport’s main runway and surrounding areas. All proceeds will benefit Rowell Family Empowerment and will be used for local child-centered activities to improve inclusion and understanding of the unique needs of children with autism and other diverse abilities in our community.
Anyone who would like to participate in the event can register by visiting the Redding Municipal Airport’s website, www.reddingairport.net or https://airportsforautism.eventbrite.com. The cost is $15 per adult and $7 per child age 12 and under. All registered participants will receive a commemorative Airports for Autism T-shirt, while supplies last, as well as an automatic entry into a drawing for a new propane barbeque donated by Home Depot, Sundial tour helicopter ride donated by Air Shasta, or a $50 gift certificate to Peter Chu’s Skyroom.
The public and media are welcome to come out for this one of a kind event on Saturday, April 11, 2015, between, 8:00 am and 11:00 am. Whether rain or shine, the 5k race will start at 8:30 am and the fun walk will follow at 8:45 am. The Redding Airport is located at 6751 Woodrum Circle in Redding.
