Turtle Bay Presents Famous Artists Program Art

Turtle Bay Exploration Park will display student-made artwork, inspired by the Famous Artists program, beginning January 30, in conjunction with the Cultural Cruise and opening of the West Coast Biennial Juried Art Exhibition. The Cultural Cruise reception at Turtle Bay will be held January 30 from 4 – 8pm. The Famous Artists program was generously supported by a grant from Target this year.

One of Turtle Bay’s oldest and most successful programs is the Famous Artists Outreach program, a volunteer-run, supplemental art program designed for students in grades K-8. Through monthly presentations, Famous Artists volunteers lead state-standards based curriculum in the classroom about art and art concepts, introducing students to some of the world’s greatest artists; focusing on both art history and genre, while using a portfolio provided by Turtle Bay.

While participating in the Famous Artists program, students learn valuable critical thinking skills, growing in their ability to analyze and compare famous artworks. Students also learn the concepts and vocabulary basic to the study of art and gain proficiency in a variety of media.  With the guidance of the Famous Artists volunteer, students create their own works of art inspired by the concepts and techniques highlighted in the portfolio they have studied.
