On 09/11/2014, Deputy Chris Staup from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office was driving westbound on Oasis Road. He saw Loren Newcombe walking eastbound on Oasis Road. Deputy Staup recognized Newcombe, who was one of Shasta County’s most wanted subjects. Deputy Staup turned his vehicle around and attempted to contact Newcombe. When the patrol vehicle slowed for the turn, Newcombe started running southbound through some vegetation in an attempt to get away from Deputy Staup. Deputy Staup stopped his vehicle in the area where Newcombe ran from and ran after him. After a foot pursuit through heavy vegetation and down a creek bed, Deputy Staup was able to catch Newcombe and placed him under arrest. During the pursuit, Newcombe threw a glass pipe into the creek bed in an attempt to hide it from Deputy Staup.
Newcombe had been featured on Shasta County’s Most Wanted and had six (6) outstanding warrants with a total bail amount of one million dollars. Newcomb was transported to the Shasta County Jail and booked without incident.
