Stabbing Reported at Mobile Home Park

On Saturday, 08/30/14, shortly after midnight, Deputies responded to a report of a stabbing at the Lazy Landing Mobile Home Park. It was reported 21-year old Robert Schornsten was stabbed by his cousin, 19-year old Noel Rhodes, at Rhoades’ mobile home within the park. As Deputies were in route to the MHP they were updated that a possible second victim, later found to be Rhodes, was possibly unconscious in his residence.

Upon Deputies arrival they found Schornsten standing in the roadway north of the MHP with what appeared to be a puncture wound to his side, one to his back and a laceration to his arm. Schornsten was initially unable to tell us how he was stabbed. Due to the extent of his injuries he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Deputies then responded to Rhodes’ residence to check on his condition and to continue the investigation. At the residence Rhodes was found to be conscious, but somewhat dazed due to being in a physical altercation with Schornsten. Rhodes was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The investigation and subsequent interviews revealed Schornsten was invited to Rhodes residence for the evening and the two, along with Rhodes wife, Kelli Rhodes, had been drinking alcoholic beverages. Schornsten and Rhodes became involved in a heated argument over who was more skilled in skateboarding. Rhodes claimed he was hit and kicked about his body and head several times by Schornsten causing him to lose consciousness. Rhodes was able to get into his residence and was able to lock Schornsten out of the residence. Schornsten then began pounding on the door trying to gain entry. Rhodes, now fearing for his and his wife’s safety, took possession of a kitchen steak type knife for protection. Once Schornsten gained entry into the residence a physical altercation occurred between them and Rhodes stabbed Schornsten. Neither Schornsten’s nor Rhodes’ injuries appear to be life threatening.

The investigation is continuing and a report will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review. No further information is available at this time.
