On 08/16/2014, at approximately 10:42 am, a citizen on Jewell Lane reported that his residence had been burglarized. A neighbor had reported to the victim that two subjects had entered his residence and removed property earlier in the morning. The neighbor took photographs of the two suspects as well as the vehicle they were operating. As a result, investigating officers identified one of the suspects as Jacob Michael Short, 30 years, of Palo Cedro.
It was determined that Short was on supervised O/R (own recognizance) through Shasta County Probation and was currently being monitored by means of a GPS ankle monitor. With the assistance of the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, Short was tracked to a residence on Cameo Court in Redding. During the investigation, it was also learned that a second subject with a GPS ankle monitor had been pin pointed to the very same residence as Short. That subject was identified as Anthony Joseph Messina, 34 years, of Redding. Messina matched the subject in the photograph taken by the neighbor earlier during the burglary.
With the assistance of California Highway Patrol Air Operations, officers converged on the area of Cameo Court and located Short and Messina operating the same vehicle they had been photographed earlier in the morning during the burglary. An enforcement stop was conducted on the vehicle and both were taken into custody without incident. A majority of the property that had been stolen was recovered. It should be noted that Messina had just been released from the Shasta County Jail the day prior and was on alternative custody through the Sheriff’s Office.
Both Short and Messina were booked on charges of first degree residential burglary, conspiracy, as well as active felony warrants. Both are being held without bail at the Shasta County Jail.
