Joann Lockwood,1940-2014: ‘She was the friend everyone wished to have’

Joann Lockwood, 74, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 in Redding, California.

Joann was born in Redding to Ira M. Shadwell and Jane Brouillard. She went to Magnolia Elementary School, Sequoia Middle School, and Shasta High School. Following graduation from Shasta High, she attended the University of Oregon and the University of the Pacific.

Joann had a long and successful career with the United States Forestry Service. She was an avid runner, loved hiking and birding, and enjoyed and appreciated friendship. She was the friend everyone wished to have.

Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Arlie Louis Lockwood (1940-1990). She is survived by longtime friend and companion Harry Daniell of Redding;  sister Diann Stevens of Sacramento; brother John Shadwell of Redding; son Thomas Lockwood of Redding; daughter Katherine Lockwood of Redding; and three grandchildren, Ross Lockwood, Hunter Lockwood and Troy Lockwood, all of Redding.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Sat. Aug. 9, 2014, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 2150 Benton Drive in Redding.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the National Audubon Society.
