Shots Fired in Shingletown

On Monday, 07/28/14, at approximately 2101 hours, deputies from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 7634 Pegnan Road in Shingletown for a shots fired call. SHASCOM had received several calls stating subjects at the location were yelling and several gun shots were fired.

Deputies arrived at the residence at approximately 2116 hours but found no one outside the location. Deputies called into the house via a patrol car’s PA system but there was no response. After several minutes, deputies approached the house and were contacted by a female resident. Two other people were also located inside the residence. All three subjects denied being involved in any disturbance.

Prior to leaving the area deputies conducted a welfare check at several other residences in the area. Deputies contacted William Oller at his home and asked if he had any information regarding the gunfire. Oller told deputies he had gone for a walk around the neighborhood. While walking past 7634 Pegnan, he got into an argument with a male subject at that location. During the argument a silver van, with two men inside, pulled up to him. An argument ensued with one of the subjects in the van. The second male subject stepped out of the van with a shotgun. Oller started to back away and the male subject fired one shot from the shotgun into the air. Oller turned to run away and 6-7 shots struck the ground near Oller’s feet as he ran down the road. Oller said the 6-7 shots appeared to be from a smaller caliber firearm and not the shotgun.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and further follow up interviews are scheduled for 7/29/14.
