Police Canine Catches Wanted Subject

On Saturday, July 26, 2014, at approximately 3:00 PM, officers from the Redding Police Department responded to 6880 Westside Road for a reported sighting of a wanted subject, Manuel Perez III, 36 years old, of Redding.

Perez was wanted for robbery, assault with great bodily injury and spousal assault. He has a lengthy violent criminal history and is a documented gang member.

When officers arrived they surrounded the location and called Perez out. Perez attempted to run out the back door of the location where Officer Ellis and his partner, police canine Taro were waiting. Perez failed to stop and follow Officer Ellis’ instructions. Perez fled the location. Taro pursued after Perez, catching him. Perez struggled with Taro, actively fighting with the canine. Taro and Officer Ellis were able to complete the arrest.

Perez was transported to Shasta Regional Medical Center and treated for injuries received while resisting arrest. He was later booked into Shasta County jail for the listed charges as well as resisting arrest.

No officers or canine Taro were injured during the incident.

The Redding Police Department encourages citizens to avoid contact with wanted subjects, and notify law enforcement of their whereabouts.
