Redding Police Called to Eureka Way Incident

On Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 10:38 p.m. Redding Police Officers were dispatched to Restpadd Psychiatric Health Facility located at 2750 Eureka Way after a transport company requested assistance with a combative subject. The transport driver, who is employed with Merit Medical Transport in Butte County, reported a mental health detainee became combative after being driven from Chico to Redding. The driver locked the subject in the back seat of the car while he waited for police.

When officers arrived on scene at 10:43 p.m., the suspect who was not restrained or secured in handcuffs, exited the vehicle and assaulted a Redding Police Officer. Several officers struggled with the suspect and ultimately gained control of him. One of the officers sustained an injury to his shoulder when he was assaulted by the suspect. While waiting for an ambulance to transport the suspect, officers noted that he had stopped breathing. Officers started CPR and Robinson was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. He is currently listed in critical condition.

As a result of Robinson’s medical condition, the Redding Police Department activated the Shasta County Multi Agency Officer Involved Critical Incident Protocol. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office was identified as the investigating agency. All questions about this incident should be directed to the Sheriff’s Department. The identity of the suspect and the involved officers is not being released at this time.
