Secretary Peter J. Gravett, California Department of Veterans Affairs, formally approved plans to erect memorials at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery for all five branches of service, to include the Air Force, Navy, Marines, Army and Coast Guard.
Included in this approval was the go-ahead to begin work on the first of these memorials, this one dedicated to the men and women of the United States Air Force. If things go as planned, a dedication ceremony of the Air Force memorial is slated for 2014/2015.
Fundraising is underway to cover the costs of fabricating and constructing the memorial. Currently, engraved pavers can be purchased and donations made by visiting the project website at USAF Memorial Redding California.
A spaghetti dinner fundraiser, sponsored by the Klassique Kafe on Athens Street in Redding, is also planned. It will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 5-9pm at the Veterans Hall on Yuba Street in Redding. In addition to dinner, entertainment will be provided and raffle tickets on sale.
Tickets can be purchased at the Klassique Kafe or by contacting Pete Stiglich at peterstiglich@yahoo.com or calling (530) 347-9276. Cost of tickets is $10 for adults and $5 for children seven and under.
