UPDATE: The Shasta County Coroners office confirmed the identity of the body retrieved from the Sacramento River.
On 04-14-2014 at approximately 1300 hours, the Shasta County Coroner’s Office learned, from RPD, that a fisherman located a deceased body in the Sacramento River upstream from the Sundial Bridge. The Sheriff’s Office Boating Unit responded and assisted in the recovery of the body.
The Coroner’s Office was able to identify the decedent as 48-year-old Darryl Brice Cunningham from Redding, CA. A post-mortem autopsy was conducted and the cause of death is pending toxicology results.
On Monday April 14, 2014 at approximately 12:38 p.m., Shascom dispatch received a report from a citizen of a possible body submerged in the Sacramento River west of the Sundial Bridge.
Redding Police officers and Shasta County Sheriff’s personnel responded to the location of the boat ramp behind the posse grounds.
A boat from the Shasta County Sheriff’s Boating Safety Unit responded, and a deceased person was located submerged in the river. Shasta County Sheriff’s personnel recovered the body from the river and it was released to the Shasta County Coroner’s Office.
The identity of the person is pending the outcome of the Shasta County Coroner’s investigation.
