Alleged Car Thief Arrested Twice in Two Weeks

On February 24, 2014 at about 4:09 a.m. hours, an RPD officer noticed a stolen vehicle traveling northbound on Market Street near Trinity.

The officer attempted a traffic stop but the driver, later identified as Benjamin Green, age 34 of Redding, failed to yield and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit route included areas of northbound I-5, Wonderland Boulevard, and Shasta Lake City. Vehicle traffic in these areas was light.

Green, after a 13 mile pursuit, yielded to officers in Shasta Lake City at the Sunshine Market. Green did not obey officers’ commands and K-9 Tarro was deployed to assist with Green’s apprehension.

He was taken into custody for failure to yield, possession of a stolen vehicle, and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Shasta County Jail after being medically cleared at the Shasta Regional Medical Center. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and retrieved his vehicle.

This was Green’s second arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle within a week.
