Six of the first residents of the California/Redding Veterans Home will be featured and honored in the upcoming annual Veterans Day Parade in the City of Shasta Lake Sat. Nov. 9 at 10 a.m.
The day begins with a 6 – 10 .m. pancake breakfast hosted by the Shasta Lake Lyons Club.
World War II Veteran Home residents Ford Bishop, Marvin Byrd, Jack Brown, Virgil Freeman, Andy Anderson and Charles Kraft will ride in vintage Korean War military Jeeps and will be introduced to the parade crowd.
“Welcome Home American Heroes” this year’s parade theme for the 21st Veterans Day Parade.
This year’s parade marshall is CM Sgt. Robert Dunlap Jr, a retired 26-year US Air Force veteran who still serves as the Shasta County Veterans Service Officer.
Also featured at Saturday’s parade are representatives from wars and actions from WWII to the war on terror. Included in the parade will be mounted units, school bands and antique vehicles.
The giant flag from the Interstate Flag Pole will lead the parade. There will also be a jet flyover during the event.
The City of Shasta Lake Lyons club will host a pancake breakfast at the Shasta Lake Fire Dept before the parade.
