Snow Temporary Closes Lassen Volcanic Park Highway

The Lassen Volcanic National Park Highway remains temporarily closed at the junction of Highway 36 and Highway 89 (5 miles south of the Southwest entrance) due to severe winter weather and complications with clearing as much as 10 feet of snow leading to the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center.
The park highway is actually closed at the park boundary (at the park sign) not at the 36E junction. CalTrans has not closed the section of Hwy 89 up to the park boundary.
The park is closed at the Loomis Ranger Station (1 mile inside the Northwest entrance) for the winter season.
The Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center is also temporarily closed to due difficulties with clearing the highway to reach the visitor center. Park staff is working diligently to return to normal operations, but does not anticipate opening the road or the visitor center until Monday, December 31st.
Please  note that the visitor center is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the winter season, regardless of weather conditions. While we anticipate the road being open for New Year’s Day, the visitor center will remain closed.
Please call 530-595-4480 or email lavo_information@nps.gov should you have any questions.
