Shasta College Choral and Symphonic Concert: Poulenc’s “Gloria”

Shasta College Arts, Communications and Social Sciences division announces the upcoming holiday concert featuring the Shasta College Chorale accompanied by members of the Shasta Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, December 15, at 7:30 p.m., in the Shasta College Theatre. This concert will present music by the French composer Francis Poulenc, including the “Gloria”, his renowned work for orchestra, choir and soprano soloist.  The “Gloria” will feature Daun Weiss as soprano soloist, along with the Shasta Community Chorale, and a full complement of players from the Shasta Symphony, all under the director of Dr. Elizabeth Waterbury.

The program will include a work for 9 wind players by another French composer.  Dr. Dwayne Corbin will conduct Charles Gounod’s “Petite Symphony”.  The Sona Trio, a group of local musicians who are familiar to the Redding area, will be performing Poulenc’s Trio for piano, oboe and bassoon.  Ellen Southard, Piano, will be joined by Cherie Gans, Violin and Bruce Belton, Bass Clarinet.
