On Wednesday August 1, 2012, at 7:54 am, Officers from the Redding Police Department responded to the area of the Caldwell Park in regards to a stolen vehicle investigation.
Officers had received information that a stolen utility truck had been left near the Caldwell Park Boat Ramp parking lot. While officers were in the area, a citizen advised that she had just seen two subjects fleeing the Caldwell Park on foot west bound. The citizen also observed
one of the subjects holding a handgun in his hand as he was running through the park.
Multiple officers responded to the scene along with the assistance of a CHP Air Unit. The City of Redding Aquatics Center and a summer camp were locked down during the search for the two subjects.
After a search of the area, officers were unable to find the subjects. It was determined that these two subjects were possibly associated with the stolen utility truck that was recovered in the area. The subjects were described as a young male Hispanic adult with a pony tail, wearing a white shirt and black pants.
This subject was seen holding the handgun as he was running though the park. The second subject was described as a young male white adult wearing a black shirt and red shorts. On this same date at approximately 10:45 am, officers responded back to the Caldwell Park where it was reported that the two subjects from the earlier incident were possibly back in the area of the original call.
Officers contacted two juvenile males who matched the description and identified them. One of the juveniles was a documented gang member. The alleged handgun has not been recovered. Anyone with information regarding this incident should call the Redding Police Department.
