Mercy Medical Center Redding (MMCR) is partnering with da Vinci® Surgery and the Office of Women’s Health to educate women in the North State on common women’s health issues and to empower women to take steps toward improving their health.
On May 8, 2012 MMCR will host Women’s Works: Tools for a Healthier You from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hospital’s Lower Level Auditoriums. The event will include a specially taped message to all event guests delievered by internationally known actress Andie MacDowell who encourages women to make health a top priority by making an appointment for an annual checkup.
Presentations will be given by Gregory Skipitis, MD, OB/GYN and Samuel Van Kirk, MD, OB/GYN on women’s health and the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System, a state-of-the art minimally invasive surgical system. MMCR is the first hospital in the North State to offer the da Vinci. This technology combines the surgeon’s skill with robotics allowing the robot to imitate the movements of the surgeon’s wrist and hand. Using the system the surgeon also has three-dimensional, high-definition vision inside the body. With this vision, and the robot itself, the surgeon can operate through smaller incisions and visualize the surgical site in three dimensions. This advanced technology has many benefits to patients including faster recovery time and smaller incisions resulting in less discomfort and scarring.
Robotic surgery can be used for a variety of conditions including treatment of gynecologic and urologic cancers and related disorders, as well as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and more. The da Vinci is currently being used to complete gynecological procedures at MMCR and soon will be used for urological surgery as well.
The event will include a hands-on demonstration of the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System, appetizers, prizes and more. Advance registration required. Call 530.24.MERCY/246.3729 or visit redding.mercy.org to reserve your spot today.
