We may have just left the hot weather behind, but community members like Jean Wilson, member of the Older Adult Policy Council and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), have already started assembling their raffle baskets to donate to the 10th Annual Celebrity Soup Kitchen.
The Celebrity Soup Kitchen will take place Thursday, October 27 from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Veteran’s Hall. The Celebrity Soup Kitchen, sponsored by the Older Adult Policy Council, is the annual fundraiser to support Power to Seniors. Power to Seniors helps low-income seniors pay their energy bills. Since the program began in 2001, Power to Seniors has raised almost $300,000 and has helped more than 780 seniors keep their electricity on and their homes warm.
Fortunately, you too can help Shasta County seniors by donating a raffle basket, displaying your business’ banner at the event, enjoying a delicious, all-you-can-eat gourmet dinner or buying raffle tickets for a chance to win awesome prizes. If you can’t stay and enjoy the music, be sure to buy some soup to go.
Along with a variety of gourmet soups, the event will feature service by local dignitaries and celebrities, live entertainment by the Straight Ahead Big Band, raffle baskets, delicious desserts and a no-host bar.
For more information on how to participate in the Celebrity Soup Kitchen or to purchase tickets, please contact Susan Wilson, Older Adult Policy Council, at 524-4777, Anna Champe at 229-8413 or visit www.goldenumbrella.org.
