Take a stroll back in time and relive the McCloud area’s unique heritage this weekend, starting Friday (Aug. 19).

St. Joseph’s barbeque tri-tip dinner from 5-8 p.m. and an old fashioned melodrama “The Strange, Secret Saga of the Star-Crossed Stage Coach Station or Black Berta Goes the Wong Way” held at 7 p.m. begin the festivities on Friday.

The melodrama is an annual fundraiser for the Heritage Junction Museum (on 320 Main Street) and is locally written and produced with local talent and is based loosely on an actual event in area history. Tickets are an affordable $5 for adults and $2.50 for children.

The tri-tip dinner is a fundraiser for the local parish and is held in a unique heritage church (213 Colombero St.). Tickets are $12.50 per person.

Saturday, there will be Law Dawgs and Pistolleros Wild West Reenactors; an Arts, Crafts, Antiques and Street Faire; Edelweiss German Singers and Dancers; Homespun Duet, Bruno Grassi, musician extraordinaire, and Evelyn Horner and the Berryvale String Band; the McCloud Garden Club will sell delicious homemade pies; the famous Firemen’s breakfast, more melodrama performances (at 2, 5 and 7 p.m.); an art show; Smoky the Bear and Sparky appearances; and a variety of food and displays and activities by many local groups.

The Brown Dog Gallery art show is featuring five amazing artists: Victoria Brenner (oils), Hillary Mills (oils), Don Feickert (floating feathers), Janet Biondi (pastels), and Ryan Schuppert (metal works).

On Sunday, in the morning there is a community worship service at the Community Presbyterian Church. The Street Faire continues along with the pop string musical group, Shasta Swing Thing. A last melodrama performance will be held at 2 p.m. This promises to be a fun packed three days, organizers say.

Street Faire vendors (handmade arts, crafts, and antiques and collectibles, as well as food) and historic or heritage demonstrations, displays, and entertainers are welcome and encouraged; contact the Heritage Days Committee for more information.
