Get Outta Town: Mother Nature’s Fireworks Light Up Lava Beds

A few days before all the patriotic pyrotechnic madness that is the 4th of July in Redding, Anderson and elsewhere, get outta town to see Mother Nature’s fireworks – the night sky above Lava Beds National Monument. Learn why Lava Beds is touted as one of the best places to view the astrological world around us and take an up-close look at some celestial bodies through a telescope.

Astronomy Day and the Night Sky Event, a special program by the National Parks Service, includes a Junior Ranger program, nature walks and talks, and an evening program that will reveal the wonders of the night sky. So grab your telescope and, on the way to buy fireworks, take a detour to visit Siskiyou County for Astronomy Day.
