This Weekend: If It’s in the House, It’s for Sale

Art of Sustainable Design

What: Frugal House 2011
When: Thursday through Saturday (June 9-11)
Where: 1660 Vallombrosa Ave., Chico, CA

Frugal House 2011 is just days away. The popular and unique event — in which everything in the house  is for sale — utilizes the talents of designers and design students in Chico and benefits the North State Symphony in a celebration of sustainable design. For fun photos of the house in the process of being transformed, click here. You’ll see pictures of the rooms as they enter the cocoon of redesign and begin to emerge as glorious butterflies of fashion.

Thursday night, June 9, 6-9 PM
The Frugal House weekend begins with a party at the Frugal House, 1660 Vallombrosa Ave in Chico. Tickets, which are $30, are selling well and may sell out prior to the event. For $99, supporters receive two tickets and the ability to boast that they are “Frugal Friends” of the Symphony.

The party features refreshments, a no-host wine bar and live performance by the Fabulous Swing Kings, whose leader, Bernie Farmer, also provided us with the use of his house for Frugal House 2011!

Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11
The House will be open from 10 in the morning til 6 in the evening. In an open-house mode, the rooms will be available for self-guided visiting. Drop in and admire, and you may find yourself chatting with the room’s designer, one of Chico’s pre-eminent firms. Friday and Saturday tickets are $15.

One room of the House is entirely devoted to artwork, most of it from local artists on a consignment basis that also helps the Symphony significantly. See a list of artists below.

Every item in the house is for sale, either on first-come basis or as a silent auction item. What’s more, there’s tons more good stuff in the Nu2You Frugal Boutique, also on the premises.
